"Season of Light" examines the cause and effect of seasonal changes on Earth. It moves on to investigate the origin of familiar holiday traditions as well as those observed by cultures around the world. While exploring the constellations of the winter sky, “Season of Light” takes a fascinating look at phenomena such as comets, meteors, planetary alignments and super novae.

The Little Star That Could

The Little Star That Could

The newest planetarium star show, “The Little Star That Could,” is the story of an average yellow star in search for planets of its own to protect and warm. Along the way, our little star meets other stars, learns what makes each star special and discovers how stars combine to form star clusters and galaxies. Eventually, the Little Star finds its planets. Each planet is introduced with basic information about our solar system. This fun show helps us all to feel special, just like this average little star. Show time is Saturday at 2 p.m.

Volcanoes of the Deep Sea

Far below the ocean waves is an incredible place teeming with life, but few people have seen it... until now. With the Mayborn Planetarium and Space Theater’s premiere of “Volcanoes of the Deep Sea,” on Friday, August 1, you can be there for the first time. This giant screen science adventure plunges the audience 12,000 feet deep into the ocean for an unprecedented experience through this vast and little-explored dimension of our planet which remains one of the greatest mysteries on Earth. read more

Laser Holidays is the Mayborn Planetarium's annual laser light celebration of the winter season and the holidays that take place during this joyous time of year. Your favorite holiday tunes are featured including such classics as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer by Burl Ives, White Christmas by Bing Crosby, We Wish You a Merry Christmas by James Galway, Jingle Bell Rock by Randy Travis, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree by Ronnie Spectre and Darlene Love, and modernistic interpretations such as Christmastime by Smashing Pumpkins, Frosty the Snowman by the Cocteau Twins, Winter Wonderland by Annie Lennox and the Eurythmics. read more
