Press Release: Space shuttle tile exhibit now open at Planetarium The Mayborn Planetarium and Space Theater announced the recent opening of a new exhibit featuring tiles from actual space shuttles. The tile pieces were part of the shuttle’s thermal protection system. They line the bottom and sides of the shuttle to protect it from the intense heat generated during the shuttle’s re-entry into the earth’s atmosphere.
